| Whenever someone comes to their death by other than natural means a formal hearing will be held before a jury. A coroner's jury meets ten times per year to decide the manner of death of every case that is presented. The jury has the option of assigning the manner of death as natural, accidental, suicidal, homicidal, and rarely undetermined. The inquest has no bearing on the criminal case but serves multiple purposes for civil cases. For these reasons, the Coroner's Office works diligently to make sure each case is presented as soon as possible before a jury so that family members can make final arrangements with banks, insurances, social services, etc.
The Coroner's Inquests are open to the public for viewing and are held at the Kendall County Courthouse. Please call the office for dates and times of inquests. |
